La Mer – Beachfront Lifestyle and Entertainment District in Dubai

La Mer was a beachfront lifestyle and leisure district located along Jumeirah 1 in Dubai. It was developed as an open-air area combining beach access, restaurants, cafés, retail spaces, and entertainment venues.

As of recent years, large parts of La Mer have been closed and redeveloped as part of new coastal development projects. While the beachfront itself remains accessible, many original retail and dining outlets are no longer in operation.

Original Concept and Layout

  • Location: Jumeirah 1, Dubai coastline
  • Design: Open-air beachfront district with pedestrian streets
  • Zoning: Dining, retail, beach access, and entertainment areas

La Mer was known for its colorful street art, modern architecture, and casual seaside atmosphere.

  • Public sandy beach with swimming areas
  • Open coastline with views of the Arabian Gulf
  • Basic beach facilities depending on operational sections

The beach remains one of the main reasons visitors continue to come to the area despite redevelopment activity.

Redevelopment Status

  • Many shops and restaurants permanently closed
  • Demolition and construction works ongoing in parts of the area
  • Future redevelopment plans announced by the developer

Access conditions and available facilities may change depending on construction progress.

La Mer is no longer a full lifestyle destination as originally designed. It currently functions primarily as a public beachfront area rather than a complete entertainment and dining district.
